About Amanda
As an artist, my work is inspired by landscapes, urban areas, and waterfronts. I am interested in the beautiful crust, decay, layers of pressure, and the marks of time. I seek to express the grit and truth of what I observe and experience.
My work is hand-built tableware, made with mid-range porcelain fired to cone 6. I love the feel and experience of working with wet clay. My decorating technique is a series of painted layers, stenciled and monoprinted with ceramic underglazes, applied to the clay when it is wet and soft.
I am interested in how new technologies can be used in the making of my work and how it might change over time. I am drawn to places where the community and the landscape are working together, where there is a connection to water and respect for the natural world.

Tile Your World
Over the last two decades, I have collaborated with students through artist residencies in schools all over Maryland. In addition to completing many tile mural projects, I have created professional development programs for educators to expand their teaching skills through arts integration in schools and online. My working method engages every participant at their own level with clear and achievable goals.
Although I’ve retired from working in classrooms, I remain dedicated to enabling teachers and students to have access to beautiful handmade materials. I’ve packaged all of that experience into an affordable DIY mosaic tile kit to create their own one-of-a-kind artworks. Individual kits can be found on Etsy. Contact me directly for bulk orders, including small groups, camps, and classrooms.
